Real Madrid’s proposed move to sign AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson appears to be on the verge of collapse, with Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois being lined up as a contingency plan.
Courtois has been long-term linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. He has just one-year remaining on his contract with Chelsea. His family also still live in Madrid from his time at Atletico.
However, it has recently became clear that the lanky Belgian is not Julen Lopetegui’s number one target. Instead, Brazil number one Alisson was thought to be on the verge of a big-money move to Los Blancos.
According to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, Florentino Perez is not prepared to bow to AS Roma’s £70M demands and is prepared to call-off the proposed deal to sign Alisson.
It’s claimed that Perez will instead pursue a cheaper alternative in Courtois, which will no doubt come as a real worry to Chelsea fans and incoming manager Maurizio Sarri.
