Chelsea may well have leapfrogged Manchester City in the race to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho at the eleventh hour.
Jorginho’s proposed move to the Etihad appeared to be signed and sealed. His arrival, along with Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, would represent two shrewd additions to the Premier League champions’ squad.
However, it appears as though the deal was not as far progressed as first thought. Chelsea appear to have entered the race and are set to blow City out the water with a higher bid.
That’s according to Naples-based Radio CRC, who believe that Chelsea are prepared to offer €10M moe than City in order to sign Jorginho this summer. At the time of writing, talks between Napoli and City are thought to be on hold.
If Maurizio Sarri is appointed Chelsea manager, he will no doubt be delighted to have one of his former players join him for his adventure at Stamford Bridge.
