Chelsea have reportedly ‘sprinted’ to secure the signing of Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani.

Though we are in no dire need of a new centre-back, signing a player with the quality and potential that Rugani possesses wouldn’t go amiss.

Recent reports have claimed that Chelsea have agreed a deal in principle with Juventus for Rugani’s transfer. The deal looks to have developed quickly.

According to TMW, that’s because Chelsea have ‘sprinted’ to get the deal over the line.

Maurizio Sarri is widely considered the favourite to replace Antonio Conte as Chelsea manager. Could he have something to do with the rapid development of this deal?

Sarri worked alongside Rugani during his time with Empoli. It’s possible that the 23-years-old’s proposed move to West London is an indication that Sarri’s appointment is just around the corner.

The former Napoli manager will likely be keen not to waste any more time in the transfer market, seeing as it’s almost July now. Rugani may well be his first addition as Chelsea boss.
