Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, who is currently the leading goal-scorer in Europe’s top five leagues.
Prior to the start of this campaign, you will not have been even vaguely familiar with Piatek. Many still will not be, he’s still only played eight games outside of Poland. However, in those eight games, he’s found the back of the net an astonishing 13 times.
Not since the great Gabriel Batistuta has a player scored in seven consecutive Serie A games. Piatek is making light-work of the Italian top division, and his good performances do not appear to have gone unnoticed across the continent.
According to Calciomercato, Chelsea are interested in signing the 23-year-old. The Blues are in dire need of a goal-scoring centre-forward, and assuming the goals will not soon dry up, Piatek could be the man we need.
The report does note that both Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing him. Chelsea will have to fend off interest from those two if we want to stand any chance of seeing Piatek playing at Stamford Bridge.
Neither of Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi are yet to prove themselves worthy of wearing the Chelsea shirt, regardless of how talented they may be. Perhaps our reported interest in a new striker in Piatek will serve as a wake-up call to them.
