Chelsea are set to make a stunning move for Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, according to The Sunday Times. The English paper reports that the Belgian defender is Antonio Conte’s defensive target now following the snub by Virgil Van Dijk.
They claim that Alderweireld has 3 years left on his contract and is paid £49,000-per-week. That Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy is refusing to increase the Belgian star’s wages to £80,000-per-week suggests the report.
Chelsea are ready to double his wages as per reports in The Sunday Times and are willing to begin negotiations after the clubs clash on Sunday.
Tottenham confirmed the signing of Davison Sanchez last week for what the Daily Mail reported to be a £42M fee. The contract situation surrounding Alderweireld is said to be the main reason for the signing of the Ajax star, according to The Sunday Times.
Apart from Chelsea, Manchester City and Inter Milan have also expressed interest in Alderweireld, according to the report.
Chelsea already have Antonio Rudiger, David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen to play in that position while Kurt Zouma is out on loan.
