It’s been the saga of the summer at Chelsea – in fact, it began way back in March, when Enzo Fernandez made his flirtatious comments with a Real Madrid move in mind. But this long story may soon be at an end (at least in the short term) after the Blues made public through their chosen journalists that they would not consider any offers for the Argentine after 5pm on Friday.

The Athletic’s Simon Johnson has written about the situation today, as we all watch the hours tick by.

Facts of the matter show move unlikely

Here are his key points:

1) Chelsea have set the deadline because they don’t want the distraction of a potential transfer affecting Enzo and his teammates, with two weeks left until the season starts.

2) Their £120m asking price has been clear for months. That won’t change.

3) Xabi Alonso has spoken to Enzo and is keen to use him this season if a move doesn’t happen.

4) The price tag is “very steep” and City aren’t likely to pay it.

Well, if City don’t want to pay it and Chelsea aren’t going to accept less, we can assume it’s not happening then, right?

In other news…

Landon Emenalo is a player gaining more and more attention in the game because of his exceptional talent. He’s lining up a first senior loan move.

Trevoh Chalobah has left Chelsea, and his comments earlier today were the first time we’ve heard him speak since leaving the club where he spent 20 years.
