Chelsea are preparing a mega offer for AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas, according to the Sport Review.
The Sport Review believe that Antonio Conte is looking to draft in reinforcements at the back in order to ready his squad for life in the Champions League, and the Premier League champions are ready to make their move to sign Manolas.
It is reported that top of Conte’s transfer wish-list was Juventus’s Leonardo Bonucci, was Roman Abramovich was less keen on signing the ageing Italian, and thus the Blues will turn their attentions to a younger alternative in Manolas.
He well be younger than Bonucci, but Manolas will likely be every bit as costly. According to the Sport Review, Chelsea are prepared to offer as much as £42million in exchange for the combative Roma defender.
With Nathan Ake, Kurt Zouma and now Andreas Christensen battling to break into Conte’s back three, there doesn’t appear to be any dire need to sign Manolas. However, the Sport Review believe that Conte wants him, and if we’ve learnt anything over the past 12 months – it’s to have faith in his decision making.
