Chelsea could be forced to “soften” asking prices on 3 attackers after lack of bids

Chelsea have decided which strikers they’re going to keep in the squad, and which ones they will sell. But their asking prices are wild.

It’s been a good transfer window for Chelsea so far, but time is running out and there is still a lot of business to do. Up front in particular, it’s become clear that Joao Pedro, Danny Welbeck and Emmanuel Emegha will be the three options for Xabi Alonso.

That means Nicolas Jackson, Liam Delap and Marc Guiu need to go. But so far, there’s desperately little interest in the latter two, and nothing concrete on the former.

Liam Twomey’s piece for the Athletic thinks that the £65m asking price for Nicolas Jackson is not too far off the mark – he even thinks someone might already have paid it had the Senegal star had more starts for Bayern on loan last season.

“It would not be shocking if Chelsea are forced to soften their positions on Jackson, Delap and Guiu in the coming days,” was Twomey’s conclusion.

You’re telling us. Who on earth is going to pay £25m for Marc Guiu? He would have to score 20 goals this season to be worth that, and as it stands we’re not even expecting him to play 20 minutes.

As for Delap, his first season was so poor it’s hard to see him ever being worth £50m – he’s certainly not worth it now.

In other news…

Whatever happens in terms of an Enzo replacement, it increasingly feels like Chelsea’s original £120m asking price is no longer going to cut it.

Aaron Anselmino is looking more and more like he will be part of Chelsea’s main squad this season, an interesting decision from Xabi Alonso given the defender’s injury history.
