AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas is close to signing a contract extension with the Serie A outfit, according to Calciomercato.
Although Chelsea only recently drafted in Antonio Rudiger from Manolas’ side, the Italian outlet believe that the Greek international is also on the Blues’ short-list. If there’s any position in which we do not need any further reinforcements, it’s centre-back, so in many ways, this may be good news from a fan’s perspective.
Calciomercato report that the Roma hierarchy have met with Manolas’ representatives several times and the two parties are now close to finding an agreement, leaving Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus out in the cold.
It seems like lazy journalism to link Chelsea with another centre-back. We cannot afford to limit Andreas Christensen’s opportunities any further, and with Calciomercato reporting that Manolas would set us back £27.5M, the release clause in his new contract, that money could be invested better elsewhere.
