Chelsea are reportedly set to lock horns with two of Europe’s biggest sides in the race to sign a Brazilian sensation.
Despite being Premier League champions, few would deny that Chelsea are stagnating. Antonio Conte clearly overachieved with the squad that he had at his disposal last term, especially seeing as they finished tenth in the league the season prior.
Having won the title last campaign, you would think that we would have learned from the mistakes of 2015/16 and invested heavily in the transfer market. However, we merely replaced the high-profile players that we allowed to leave, such as Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic.
Now is the time for the board to wake up and back Conte in the market, giving him the tools he requires to be successful once again. It looks as though they could be about to do so.
According to the Daily Mail (via Team Talk), Chelsea are set to go head-to-head with Manchester United and Barcelona in the race to sign Gremio starlet Arthur.
Arthur is considered one of the most promising Brazilian youngsters. Chelsea landing him ahead of the aforementioned giants would be quite a coup. The report claims that his buy-out clause stands at £45M. Only time will tell if that’s a price we’re willing to pay.
