Daniele Rugani’s proposed move to Chelsea may not be as close to completion as has been reported.

The Juventus defender has been linked with us since the minute it became clear Maurizio Sarri was our top managerial target.

Rugani worked alongside Sarri during his time on-loan at Empoli. That proved to be an invaluable learning experience for the Italian.

It’s been claimed that Sarri hoped to reunite with Rugani at Napoli, but Juventus will have had little interest in selling him to a rival.

Sarri may well attempt to prise Rugani away from Turin once again this summer, but that’s not to say the player himself would be keen on making the move.

His agent, Davide Torchia, has been discussing the possibility of the deal materialising before the transfer window shuts in three weeks time.

Torchia’s comments do not exactly fill us with hope. Here’s what he said, as reported by Calciomercato:

“It must be considered that Juve in the past did not accept negotiations, nor with Napoli nor with other teams and has always expressed its willingness to hold the footballer.”

“To date, the will has not changed, and Rugani himself has not expressed a willingness to go elsewhere.”

Sarri may well have to look elsewhere.
