Sport Witness have rounded up the latest reports on Chelsea’s proposed move to sign AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas.
The Blues are thought to be keen on signing Manolas this summer, with Maurizio Sarri in the hunt for defensive reinforcements.
It remains to be seen whether the Greek international is top of Sarri’s wish-list, or merely an alternative to Daniele Rugani, who we are believed to have placed a £35M bid for.
Sport Witness cite claims in Italy which claim that Chelsea are prepared to pay Manolas’ €36M release clause in full in order to see him join the club this summer.
That would suggest that our interest in genuine, but AS Roma sporting director Monchi has claimed that he knows nothing of any Chelsea interest, only what he’s read in the press.
Mochi is quoted by Sport Witness saying:
“Manolas is happy here, he wants to stay. I read that Chelsea wants to pay the clause, but I do not know anything about this.”
Manolas and Rugani are two players with a similar profile, who would cost around the same. The former is most likely a contingency plan in case Juventus play hard-ball.
