Stoke City boss Gary Rowett has dented Chelsea’s hopes of signing Jack Butland – if we had any to begin with, that is.
Chelsea’s goalkeeper crisis threatens to go from zero to a hundred real quick.
Thibaut Courtois remains, for now. There’s no certainty that he’ll be here come the start of the Premier League season, however.
He’s only got a year left to run, and it’d be hard for him to not have his head turned by Real Madrid. His family still live in the city, after all.
Butland has been mentioned as a potential replacement should Courtois depart. On paper, he has all the required credentials.
He’d also help satisfy Marina Granovskaia’s desire for home-grown talent, which is an added bonus.
Despite Stoke’s relegation to the Championship, the Potters are standing their ground over their prize possession. Manager Rowett expects him to stay.
He’s quoted by Standard Sport saying:
“I expect him to stay, I hope he stays…”
“We haven’t had an offer which the club feel is financially viable – or I don’t think any strong offer yet.”
While the transfer window remains open, the situation could still change…
