Real Madrid will reportedly set aside the number seven shirt for Chelsea winger Eden Hazard this summer.
You could be forgiven for thinking that you’ve been teleported into some kind of backwards, parallel universe. You haven’t, though, Cristiano Ronaldo really is on the verge of joining Juventus.
What will be a huge coup for Juve and Italian football will also leave Florentino Perez with an almighty void in Madrid. There a few players on the planet capable of replacing Ronaldo’s influence. Hazard is one of them.
Chelsea are running out of time to show enough ambition in the transfer market to convice Hazard to stay put at Stamford Bridge. If he decides to leave, it looks as though Los Blancos will be waiting in the wings to sign him.
According to Diario Gol, Real Madrid will set aside the number 7 shirt following Ronaldo’s departure and save it for Hazard. The Belgian wears the number 10 for Chelsea and Belgium, but that’s being occupied by Luka Modric.
Just five other players have worn the number 7 in the entire history of Real Madrid. Those are Joseito, Juanito, Emilio Butragueno, Raul and Ronaldo. Only time will tell if Hazard will be the sixth.
