Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been named in England’s starting lineup to face Panama at the World Cup.

Loftus-Cheek first earned a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad following his superb performances out on-loan with Crystal Palace.

Having won the man of the match award for his debut against Germany, Loftus-Cheek also featured in England’s following friendly match with Brazil. However, he was withdrawn prematurely after picking up an injury.

He worked his way back to fitness and was subsequently included in England’s squad which headed to Russia.

The 22-year-old impressed during a short cameo against Tunisia, and will be making his first competitive start for his country against Panama this afternoon.

Dele Alli was injured in the opening game, providing Loftus-Cheek with an opportunity to nail down a starting role going forward in the competition.

This is a momentous day not only for Loftus-Cheek himself, but also for Chelsea’s academy. Congratulations to all involved.
