New Chelsea signing Marco Palestra was very close to moving to Inter Milan before the Blues swooped in and got a deal done. He spent last year on loan from Atalanta at Cagliari, and the Sardinian club’s sporting director from last season has been speaking about the player who he got to know well.

“I was convinced he’d go to the Premier League, they followed Marco and saw that he’s a player suited to the English league,” Guido Angelozzi said.

“The only club in Italy that could have signed him was Inter, but evidently at a certain point they were outbid” he concluded.

Angelozzi is convinced Palestra will fit in well in the English top flight: “absolutely. He’s a champion in his role.”

Some Premier League pundits haven’t been as convinced by Palestra’s profile, and certainly aren’t impressed by the potential €60m we’re paying for him. In a few months we will start to find out who has read this one right.

The same source also revealed the full details of the deal a pretty juicy one for Atalanta, who got far more than they bargained for.

Geovany Quenda is another player who has a summer move completed, and he will move full time to England on Saturday according to the Daily Mail.
