It’s very much Marco Palestra week in Italy. The full back was supposed to go from Atalanta to Inter, but Chelsea have swooped in and hijacked the deal, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano yesterday morning.

Chelsea pay big fee for Palestra after blowing Inter away
They say that, “much to the chagrin of Inter,” Palestra will join Chelsea following a medical in the next few days. The wing back will sign a contact until 2032 on a base salary of €5m which can rise to €6m. That’s about £90,000 a week base, pretty low for a first team player.
Atalanta get €55m as a fixed fee, with €3m in bonuses and a 10% of future resale. As TMW point out, this could mean a €60m+ deal in the future. They call that “particularly lucrative” and say that the size of that sum was what “put paid to Inter.”
It’s not ideal to hear local sources surprised and impressed by a transfer fee, let’s face it.
