Last week, before the news of a Marco Palestra bid broke and took over the weekend, there was only one player everyone on the Chelsea beat was talking about – Maxence Lacroix.
The Crystal Palace defender had long been talked about as a target, but it was only now that Chelsea seemed to be moving for him. The Athletic Deal Sheet today confirms he’s a “main target,” but also adds the curious detail that “no bid has been made” just yet.

Of course the fact that no bid has been made yet doesn’t mean the interest is anything less than concrete. Sometimes the terms are all hammered out in conversation so there is no bid until one comes in that has been agreed to be acceptable.
Chelsea have a good relationship with Crystal Palace and have done good business with them – they want to make sure this is done as respectfully and cleanly as possible. They are presumably finding out exactly what Palace want before they lodge an official offer.
