Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas has signed for Bristol City on a season long loan, the EFL Championship side have confirmed.

Kalas, best known for his imperious display at Anfield back in 2014, has failed to break into the Chelsea first-team setup since then. That’s down to a combination of unsuccessful loan spells and the sheer amount of cash we have invested into our back-line

Now 25-years-old, we assumed that this would (finally) be the time that we’d see Kalas leave the club on a permanent basis – but he hasn’t.

Kalas will spend the 2018/19 campaign on loan with Bristol City in the Championship. He has helped both Middlesbrough and Fulham reach England’s top tier over the past few years, but neither side opted to purchase him permanently.

He has, as a result, been sent back to the Championship. The purpose of continually loaning him to second division sides is beyond our understanding. It seems unfair to hold him hostage and prevent him building a career for himself.

Regardless, we wish Kalas the best of luck for the upcoming season and hope that he returns stronger. Whether that to become part of the first-team, or finally leave the club permanently, we shall see.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to news of Kalas’ loan. What do you make of it, Blues?
