Lewis Baker had a disastrous season last time out.

He joined Middlesbrough on loan and then barely played all season, setting back all of the good progress he made at Vitesse the season before.

This season, some Chelsea fans have been jittery already, seeing him left on the bench by Marcelo Bielsa in his first two league games.

But there’s no need to panic just yet. Baker started the cup game against Bolton last night, and picked up an assist.

That will go some way to showing Bielsa what he can do, and his combination of physicality and technical skills should place him perfectly to play in the Argentine’s system.

The midfielder just needs to be patient, and he will get his chance. The intensity of the system being introduced at Elland Road will need plenty of rotation in a long season. His chances will come – he just needs to take them.
