Chelsea loanee Christian Pulisic put in an underwhelming performance against Spurs in the Champions League – but there’s an explanation for it.
If Chelsea fans were tuning into Spurs’ 3-0 triumph over Dortmund midweek, they may have been concerned about just how out of his depth Pulisic appeared at times. He had bright moments during the first-half, but was completely anonymous in the second.
Considering Spurs are one of our closest rivals, and we have struggled against them in recent seasons, you’d be hoping that we would recruit players who were capable of performing against them. Pulisic wasn’t on Wednesday, but that’s not a fair reflection of his quality.
German publication Ruhr Nachrichten report that Pulisic suffered an injury during Dortmund’s loss to Spurs, which could be why he was unable to leave his mark on the game. The injury does not appear to be serious, but it will have certainly bothered him out on the Wembley turf.
We would be wrong to judge Pulisic on the basis of one performance. There is a reason why he has a reputation as one of the best young wingers on the planet, and we firmly believe that he will prove to be a worthwhile addition for Chelsea.
