Five Chelsea loanees were in action over the weekend as the new Premier League season got underway.

Academy products Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kasey Palmer went up against each other as Crystal Palace hosted Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town on Saturday. However, Kasey Palmer will have enjoyed his debut more as Huddersfield beat Palace 3-0 thanks to a brace from Steve Mounie and a Stephen Ward own goal.

Meanwhile, hot prospect Tammy Abraham started Swansea’s first game of the season against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium. Yet, despite having a few opportunities to score, the Chelsea loanee was unable to inspire his side to victory as the match finished 0-0.

Central defender Kurt Zouma was another of Chelsea’s loan players to make his debut for a Premier League side at weekend. The two-time Premier League winner played the full 90 minutes for Stoke, but was unable to spoil Wayne Rooney’s second debut for the Toffees as Everton ran out 1-0 winners, courtesy of a header from the former England captain.

Finally, Izzy Brown was one of the Brighton eleven chosen to face Manchester City on Sunday night. However, Brown’s Premier League debut for the Seagulls was one to forget as the forward pulled up with a hamstring injury and was substituted in the 24th minute.
