- The Belgian impressed while on-loan with Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi has revealed to the Times that he has no intention of leaving the club on a permanent basis.
Batshuayi scored nine goals in 14 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, having joined the German side on-loan for the final five months of the season. His time with the club was cut short by an ankle injury, but not before he made a real impression.
We had expected Batshuayi to be part of the first-team squad under Maurizio Sarri. It would have made sense, especially considering the shortfalls of Alvaro Morata last season. However, off to Valencia he went, where he has only played a bit-part role thus far.
After a second loan, you could be forgiven for casting doubt over Batshuayi’s future, but the 24-year-old has revealed that he is not interested in leaving Chelsea.
He’s quoted by the Times saying:
“No [I’m not looking for a permanent move]. I’ve so much respect for Chelsea and I love them. This loan is important for my development, to show how good I am so that I can go back to Chelsea a better player.”
Batshuayi needs to get his shooting boots back on if he wants to force himself into the Chelsea first-team picture. We’d back him to do so, though, his talent can’t be called into question. As he has proven previously, he just needs an opportunity.
