Drinkwater was deemed surplus to requirements by Frank Lampard, who did not include him in the squad to take part in either of Chelsea’s final two pre-season fixtures.
It became clear at that point that Drinkwater would not be part of Chelsea’s squad this season, with finding a suitor for him all that remained before official confirmation arrived.
Well, it has now. Burnley have confirmed that they will be housing the former Leicester City Premier League winner for half of the 2019/20 campaign.

We wish Drinkwater the best of luck during his time at Burnley. The relationship between us and him was never going to work out, but hopefully he has a prosperous future.
With the European Championships next year, he has an outside chance of forcing his way into Gareth Southgate’s thinking if he performs to a high enough level. Go get it, Danny!
