Chelsea play Brentford in FA Cup fourth round of the FA Cup tomorrow afternoon as Antonio Conte’s men continue their quest for silverware.
Brentford will be coming to Stamford Bridge looking to emulate Bradford City who caused one of the biggest shocks in FA Cup history with a 4-2 victory over Chelsea two years ago at this stage of the competition.
It’s not the first time these two sides have met in the FA Cup, in 2013 Chelsea needed a reply to get through against the Bee’s. Fernando Torres saved the day in the dying minutes at Griffin Park and we managed to scrap a 2-2 draw. The reply was a very different story, Chelsea won 4-0, the recently departed Oscar, Juan Mata, Frank Lampard and John Terry scoring the goals.
There’s also a return for ex Chelsea youth player Josh McEachran who we all thought at one stage would go on to be the long-term replacement for Frank Lampard. Sadly that never happened and he now finds himself playing in the league below.
Chelsea could rest Gary Cahill for tomorrow’s tie after his clash of heads with Ryan Mason in Chelsea’s victory over Hull City last weekend.
John Terry will most likely come back into the side after serving a ban for getting sent off in the last round against Peterborough.
Kurt Zouma should partner him in defence as he tries to regain full match fitness after a long-term injury. Ever present Cesar Azpilicueta will make up the third of the three centre backs.
Top scorer Diego Costa is expected to be rested, Michy Batshuayi is the most obvious replacement.
PREDICTED LINE UPS
Chelsea: Courtois; Azpilicueta, Terry, Zouma; Ivanovic, Chalobah, Fabregas, Ake, Alonso; Willian, Batshuayi.
Brentford: Bentley; Egan, Dean, Bjelland; Colin, McEachran, Woods, Yennaris, Field; Sawyers, Vibe.
Brentford currently find themselves in 15th place in the Championship. Away from home they have lost four of their last six games, conceding 12 goals in the process. In the football betting they are available at 16/1 with bet365 to make it through to the fifth round.
Chelsea on the other hand are clear favourites with at 1/5 and have won nine on the bounce at Stamford Bridge scoring 28 goals in the process. Things certainly don’t look good for tomorrow’s visitors.
IS THE GAME ON TV?
The match will not be televised live in the UK but you can find highlights in the evening on BBC1.
Conte is expected to make a lot of changes with big games coming up against Liverpool and Arsenal. Even with the fringe players coming in i cant see anything other than a Chelsea win.
Chelsea 3-0 Brentford.
