While Chelsea got their new manager for this summer sorted nice and early, rivals Manchester City are not finding it as easy.
They are close, at last, to appointing former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, according to the Guardian. But it’s not done yet. Chelsea want compensation to release Maresca, who walked away from them in January having had preliminary talks with City.
Chelsea dig in over Maresca compensation

According to this piece by Matt Hughes, Chelsea think they have enough evidence to show that Maresca breached his contract by speaking to City, and are demanding compensation instead of lodging a complaint about it.
It’s not just a question of the payout, which is apparently likely to be worth “over £10m.” The Blues felt let down by their coach, and don’t want to let him off the hook.
Man City return for preseason until the middle of July, so they don’t have a particular rush – but it must feel very uncomfortable to not have anyone in place.
In other news…
Chelsea have been linked with some very ambitious interest in a player owned by one of their biggest rivals. We’re not sure they have any chance of landing him.
Xabi Alonso is going to have a number of new players to work with at Chelsea next season, and we still don’t really know what his plans are for most of them.
