This time tomorrow, Chelsea will be taking on Western Sydney Wanderers in their first official friendly of this preseason. That meant that today was the moment for new manager Xabi Alonso to take his second press conference as Blues boss.
There was one major piece of news that had developed since he last spoke to the media a fortnight ago – Morgan Rogers’ record breaking transfer to Stamford Bridge.
Alonso, as you’d expect, was very positive about the whole thing.
Rogers “a great signing” for Chelsea says new manager

“It’s a great signing,” Alonso said, before going on to give a little more detail about the former Aston Villa man’s potential impact.
“In that position, we needed an important player and there were not many better options than Morgan Rogers. His signing means a lot for everyone and for the players that are already here.
“He feels he is enjoying his game, his flow, and I’m sure he will have good connections with the other players around him. If we get those connections right, that will be a great step forward in the quality of our game.”
It will be a couple of weeks before he joins up with the squad, but we’re all as excited as he is.
In other news…
Another player who has been speaking out on the tour is Jamie Gittens, who gave an update on where he’s at physically after missing the end of the season.
The open training session that Chelsea had last night gave reporters some interesting clues on what we might see in Tuesday’s game and beyond.
