Chelsea had one black mark on their win over Brighton – the loss of Moises Caicedo to another injury

It was a fun day out for Chelsea against Brighton today, with the Blues scoring 4 and winning the game.
There was one bleak moment, however – Moises Caicedo being subbed off 11 minutes after being subbed on for his first minutes of the season.
His minor injury is proving less minor than we had hoped. After the game, all eyes were on manager Xabi Alonso as he gave an update on the Ecuadorian.

“We hope it is not new and not more than last time. He was cautious to stop, his feeling was not the best, but we have to assess,” Alonso said.
You can never expect too much on injuries from managers in these immediate post game chats. The scans haven’t been done, and even if there’s feedback from the medical staff, the coaches don’t want to say anything overly positive or negative which can be used against them later. We will have to wait for the next presser for more information.
Still, there is some information to be gleaned there. It doesn’t sound like something new, just a precaution after feeling a recurrence of the problem he already had. That’s pretty much the best case we can hope for – we shall see if it turns out to be accurate.

Chelsea slotted Emi Martinez into their starting lineup today and after the game Joao Pedro was asked what an impact that had made.
Moises Caicedo lasted just 11 minutes on his return to action – and the way he left the pitch was very worrying indeed.
