Antonio Conte has provided Chelsea fans with the news that they’ve all been waiting for – this ought to help you sleep a little easier tonight (if you buy into his comments, that is).
Unfortunately for the ‘Forza Conte’, the Italian has NOT given us an insight into his own future beyond this season – rather the future of Chelsea’s key players.
It’s something that we all have on the back of our minds. Without the promise of Champions League football, and with inevitable interest from Real Madrid and other footballing superpowers, why would the likes of Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois stay put?
Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague claimed back in January that Los Blancos had placed the Chelsea duo top of their shopping list for the summer transfer window.
They would have a better chance of winning silverware and etching their names into the football hall-of-fame if they were to move elsewhere.
However, Conte does not expect a mass exodus, and has cited the failures of the Jose Mourinho led Chelsea side of 2015/16 as evidence.
Conte is quoted by the London Evening Standard saying:
“Don’t forget two years ago Chelsea finished 10th with many players of this season…they decided to continue to play for this club.”
Let’s hope he’s right and they opt to stay put once again…
