Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte may well have just used his pre-match press conference ahead of our clash with Manchester City to fire a sly dig at the Chelsea board.

The Premier League champions lock-horns with Man City at the Etihad on Sunday knowing that we have all-but surrendered our title to Pep Guardiola’s side. They have been, by some distance, the best team in the league this term, but we mustn’t overlook the fact that we have been below-par.

There is the argument that City’s success is as a result of Guardiola being given the full backing of the club’s owners. He has been provided with any player he craves on a silver platter. This has not been the case for Conte, who has not been afraid to publicly call-out the Chelsea board for their lack of transfer activity.

He appears to have done so once again. Conte hailed the relationship that Guardiola has with the City hierarchy, and noted the financial backing he has received, as Sky Sports report:

“I think when you work very well and there is a great feeling between the manager and the club – then you can work in the way you want to try and improve the team because also Man City has the possibility to spend a lot of money.”

“When you link this situation – a good manager, money to spend on the transfer market, and this ambition – this is the final result.”

We weren’t born yesterday, Antonio, this is a pretty obvious dig at Marina Granovskaia, Roman Abramovich and co.

The best thing to happen is for Abramovich to sell Chelsea, it seems his love affair with his favourite toy has gone.
