Antonio Conte has provided an an update on the injury sustained by Alvaro Morata during Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.

The Spaniard limped off after half an hour of play and could be seen clutching his left hamstring. The Chelsea faithful collectively held their breath as we awaited news on Morata’s condition, and thankfully, Conte has updated us so we can breathe once again.

The Chelsea website quote Conte, who reveals:

“It’s a muscular problem. I don’t think it’s serious. He said to me: “Coach I prefer to stop, otherwise I risk having a bad injury.” I don’t know. The doctor in the next few days will check the situation but I don’t think he will be available for the national team.”

From a fan’s perspective, the better we can get Morata fit and firing again, the better. Michy Batshuayi has proven himself to be a worthy deputy, but Morata is on another level entirely, he’s one of the best strikers on the planet.

The international break could not have come at a better time. Morata ought to put his feet up and recover ahead of the busy schedule that lies ahead after the set of international fixtures. Get well soon, Alvaro! We need you dearly.
