Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has insisted there was nothing wrong with Tiemoue Bakayoko’s first half performance against West Ham, the Daily Star reports.
West Ham were leading the Blues 1-0 at Half-Time at the London Stadium. This forced Conte to play his cards, bringing on Pedro for Bakayoko.
When speaking after the match, Conte backed the Frenchman and that a change was made because of the circumstances.
“Bakayoko was playing a good game but when you find 11 players behind the ball and you are losing 1-0, it’s important to change something.”
Bakayoko had a poor first-half
The 23-year-old should by no means be a scapegoat for his display in Saturday’s game.
However, the player will definitely reflect on his performance thinking he didn’t give it 100%.
Bakayoko has had some good performances at Chelsea. Although if Danny Drinkwater was available for the match, the Englishman may have got the nod.
Bakayoko may not play against Huddersfield Town if Conte elects to play Pedro or Willian instead.
