Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso is a target for La Liga champions-elect Barcelona as the Catalans search to replace Gerard Pique, Goal reports.
The left-wing-back has been impressive for the Blues this season, scoring some crucial goals despite showing vulnerability in defence. Despite this, Barcelona cites Alonso as a player that can replace Pique, who has been at the Catalan side since 2008.
As per Goal, Chelsea are ready to reject any potential offer from the Spanish giants, who will be rebuilding for next season as head coach Antonio Conte is likely to be shown the exit door along with the likelihood of entering the Europa League.
Alonso can be utilised as a centre-back, a role he played in during his Fiorentina days but the report states that Barcelona do have an alternative to the 27-year-old in Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt.
Chelsea have been recently linked with the likes of Manchester United’s Luke Shaw and Paris Saint-Germain’s Layvin Kurzawa. However, it would come as a huge surprise to see Alonso depart even there’s no Champions League football at Stamford Bridge next season.
