Chelsea appear keen to cover their backs in case Maurizio Sarri’s proposed appointment goes south.
Reports have claimed that Sarri is closing in on a move to Chelsea. There is thought to be just one detail standing between the Italian and official confirmation of his move from Napoli – Antonio Conte.
Chelsea are still negotiating with Conte over his pay-off. He has £9M left on the contract that he signed in the summer of 2016, and is entitled to the lot.
Marina Granovskaia finds herself in a position where she may be forced to bow to Conte’s demands in order to get Sarri through the door and push forward with our summer transfer plans.
She appears to be keen on preventing a repeat of the situation.
According to Il Mattino, Chelsea are attempting to negotiate a clause into Sarri’s contract that will allow the club to sack him for €7M. As disrespectful as it may seem, it may prove to be a good idea in the long-run.
