Chelsea are bracing themselves for a possible swoop by Barcelona for their left wing back, according to Don Balon.

The 28-year old defender has enjoyed a brilliant Chelsea career since his arrival in teh summer of 2016. He helped Chelsea to the title in his maiden season.

Alonso, a former Sunderland player, moved to Fiorentina, where he blossomed as one of Serie A finest left backs before Antonio Conte sanctioned the deal to bring him to Chelsea.

Barcelona have been monitoring his progress and want him to replace Jordi Alba.

According to the report by the Don Balon, the Spaniard is considered an upgrade on Alba who has seen his stock fall in the last couple of seasons despite a bright start at Catalonia.

The Barcelona faithful though, may frown at the move for the left back due to his affiliation with Real Madrid. He is a product of the La Fabrica.

Alonso has been bizarrely overlooked by the Spain national team despite his impressive form for Chelsea in the last 18 months.

His reputation still causes stirs among fans with Chelsea’s hierarchy also angling for moves for Juventus left back Alex Sandro.

It remains to be seen if Sandro will be signed, you can get free bets on the 2018 grand national as well as the player joining Chelsea himself.

Conte will consider the Brazilian an upgrade on Alonso, who recently mentioned his interest in returning to the La Liga one day, as quoted by Metro.
