Former Chelsea players Michael Ballack and Juliano Belletti have reportedly both been considered as candidates to fill the vacant technical director role.
Michael Emenalo left the club mid-season after eight-years at Chelsea. He subsequently joined AS Monaco as the Ligue 1 side’s sporting director.
A rift grew between Emenalo and the club’s fans, who blamed the Nigerian for much of the club’s failures in the transfer market. His departure was welcomed by most, but rued by those with close ties to the club.
Emenalo resigned in November. We now find ourselves midway through June, with the summer transfer window in full swing, without having found his replacement.
According to the London Evening Standard, both Ballack and Belletti have been considered for the role. Both players have demonstrated their in-depth understanding of the game and have a pre-existing knowledge of the club from their time here as players.
With Gianfranco Zola also being linked with a return to SW6 as Maurizio Sarri’s assistant manager, these are exciting times for those who followed the club during the opening decade of the new millennium.
