Alvaro Morata has been criticised on Twitter for breaking down in tears after scoring against MOL Vidi on Thursday evening.

Morata, who upon his arrival at the club became our most expensive acquisition ever, endured a difficult first season as a Chelsea player. Though he started brightly, his form fast nose-dived and he subsequently came under intense scrutiny.

With Chelsea opting against signing a new striker over the summer, Morata headed into the season as Maurizio Sarri’s main man. He has already fallen out of favour with the Italian, with Olivier Giroud being preferred in recent matches.

Morata was given an opportunity to start against MOL Vidi in the Europa League. Though he missed an absolute sitter in the first-half, he finally found the back of the net late in the game to secure Chelsea all three points.

The 25-year-old broke down in tears. Can you blame him? A goal against the champions of Hungary in Europe’s second string competition is what every striker dreams about…

Chelsea fans on Twitter were not too impressed with Morata. Here’s how a handful of them reacted. What do you think, Blues?
