Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has urged his former employers to renew Eden Hazard’s contract as soon as possible.
Essien made 256 appearances for the Blues, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions league and six other pieces of silverware during his time at Stamford Bridge.

The Ghanaian is one of the best midfielders we’ve seen wear the Chelsea shirt. His combative style accompanied with his pin-point passing and rocket of a right-foot meant that we were able to consistently dominate the midfield battle.
Essien is more than qualified to comment on current affairs in West London, and he has done so during an interview with Goal.
One topic in particular that Essien touched on was Eden Hazard’s contract situation. During his interview with Goal, the 35-year-old sang the praises of our Belgian genius, claiming that he would have more chance of winning the crown jewels of individual accolades if he moved to the Santiago Bernabeu:
“He could go to Real Madrid to win the Balon d’Or easier. When we talk about Eden, he is such a good player. He’s very quick, very good on the ball. He’s very strong, he may be little but he is strong, trust me! It is hard to get the ball off him.”

Essien went on to add that his former side Chelsea need to get Hazard tied down to a contract extension as soon as possible. Goal quote Essien, who says:
“He has that magic touch. I think that Chelsea need to renew his contract. You don’t want your best players to leave and we need him at the club.”
We’re inclined to agree, Michael!
