Cesar Azpilicueta is one of the greatest signings the club has ever made.
Joining Chelsea for just £6.5M back in August 2012, as reported by BBC Sport, you could be forgiven for thinking that it was an unambitious acquisition by the then champions of Europe. However, Azpilicueta fast proved his doubters wrong.
Fast forward five years and Azpilicueta has already written his name into the Chelsea history books. After being influential in two Premier League title triumphs, and one of our most consistent performers over that period, he can now be considered one of the best defenders in our history.
Testament to that was the fact that he started an incredible 74 consecutive Premier League games for the Blues up until our 1-0 victory over Swansea City. The consistency in his performances, as well as his natural fitness, are astounding.
After that run came to an end, Azpilicueta is now looking to better it. The Spaniard is quoted by the Metro saying:
“I never thought about the amount of games I played in a row, 90 minutes in all of them. But I would try to beat that mark, and I’m pleased for the number of games because I know it’s difficult.”
Few would bet against him doing it!
