Chelsea will need to break the bank in order to sign Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, and have very little chance of doing so in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Calciomercato. The Italian outlet report that Chelsea were keen on securing Sandro’s services in the summer, but what we were willing to pay fell short of Juventus’ expectations.
Calciomercato note that our bid was worth €50M, plus bonuses, but Juventus were unwilling to sell for that price. Though that may seem like a hefty figure in itself for a left-back, Sandro is one of the best in the world in his position. In the modern transfer market, that’s a price you have to be prepared to pay to land a world-class player.
The report claims that Juventus will not sell in January, but may listen to offers of a considerable size next summer. Only time will tell if one will come in from Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.
Marcos Alonso has proven himself to be a more than capable left-wing-back over the past year or so, but Sandro would still be a considerable upgrade. He is far more accomplished both defensively and offensively than the Spaniard.
Roman Abramovich is going to have to be prepared to open his chequebook if we want to have any chance of signing Sandro. He did it over the summer, perhaps he can be persuaded to do it once again.
