Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has reportedly waved goodbye to South African sports channel Supersport ahead of his proposed return to Stamford Bridge.
In recent days, Zola has emerged as the frontrunner to link-up with Maurizio Sarri as his assistant manager at Chelsea.
Zola has managerial experience of his own, but would have little chance of securing a job at this level if not for his existing ties to the club and pre-existing relationship with Sarri.
The Italian has already admitted that he is in talks with Chelsea over returning to the club, but it look as though the deal could be closer to completion than previously thought.
One user on chelseafc Reddit claims that following Senegal’s win over Poland on Tuesday afternoon, Zola said his goodbyes South African sports channel Supersport, where he was providing punditry for this year’s World Cup.
Zola appears to be on his way back to Chelsea. We await official confirmation of his and Sarri’s arrivals.
