Maurizio Sarri’s basic English sometimes gives the impression he’s not a very expressive character, but when you read his quotes translated from Italian you realise that’s not the case.
Goal.com last night had some really interesting quotes from the manager, who was speaking about the summer pursuit of Gonzalo Higuain.
We’ve already heard from the striker himself that Sarri wanted him, and now the new Chelsea boss has confirmed it, saying that he “regrets” not being able to pick up the 30 year old, who has since joined AC Milan.
Unsurprisingly it seems the board weren’t keen on spending massive money on a player whose resale value will be falling. Luckily for us we now have a manager who understands that he can’t always get what he wants.
It’s hardly a vote of confidence in Alvaro Morata that Sarri was keen to replace him however. And as we’ve seen through the early fixtures of this season, the club might be regretting not listening to their new coach after all, unless the Spaniard finds some form.
