Mario Pasalic has revealed the reason why he decided to leave Chelsea on loan again, despite being impressed by Maurizio Sarri during pre-season.

Pasalic was widely expected to leave Chelsea on a permanent basis this summer. Having trained under Maurizio Sarri, and had minutes in a Chelsea shirt during pre-season, he signed for Serie A outfit Atalanta on a season long loan.

Whether Pasalic has a future at Stamford Bridge remains to be seen, but he’s level headed for his age, he recognises that he’s not yet good enough to play for a club of our stature.

Pasalic is quoted by Football London saying:

“Quality and aggressiveness, possession and pressing, all combined very well. I asked myself another question: what good would it have done me to sit on the bench?”

“I don’t belong at Chelsea right now, or at any top club. I have to understand if I can be. And to understand it, I need a team to stay at and play, two or three years.”

Pasalic may not be as talented as many of the players on our books, but he does boast a quality that not many of our younger players possess – he has his head screwed on straight.

If he has a good season with Atalanta, replicating the performances he put in while at AS Monaco, he could get the chance that he desires. Whether that be at Chelsea, or elsewhere, remains to be seen.
