Matt Le Tissier has backed Maurizio Sarri to make moves in the transfer market if Gary Cahill decides to leave the club in the January transfer window.
Cahill has already expressed his desire to leave in January, if he is unable to force his way into Sarri’s starting eleven.
The Englishman played his first minutes of the season against West Ham on Sunday, replacing Antonio Rudiger as a second half substitute.
The possibility of our current club captain departing has increased considerably over the past few weeks. However, would it be wise to shorten our options at the back mid season?
Le Tissier doesn’t predict it to be a problem. The Southampton legend is quoted by the Express revealing his belief that there will be funds available for Sarri to spend in January:
“If he wants to go in January, I think he’s at an age now where the manager should just go ‘do you know what? I think you’re absolutely right.'”
“They have to adapt with the players they’ve got there and if he has to go out and do a little bit of business in January, then so be it.”
“They’ve got the funds to do that, so as long as he manages the situation finely then I don’t think it’s a problem in the dressing room.”
We wouldn’t be surprised to see all of Cahill, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Emerson Palmieri leave in January. The latter two would likely just be on loan, but they’d still need replacing for the final five months of the season.
January could prove to be a busy month for the Blues…
