Maurizio Sarri

Maurizio Sarri appeared to be the frontrunner to replace Antonio Conte as Chelsea manager, but it looks as though there may have been an irreparable breakdown in talks between the two parties.

Antonio Conte remains in limbo. He’s still officially Chelsea manager, but his time at Stamford Bridge appears to have come to an end following his failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Sarri, who was unfortunate not to win the Serie A title with Napoli last season, was a shoe-in to replace Conte. However, recent reports from his native Italy suggest that he will not be moving to West London anytime soon.

According to CalcioNapoli24, talks between Sarri and Chelsea have broken down. We do not appear wiling to pay his €8M release clause, with Napoli playing hardball, despite already appointing former Blue Carlo Ancelotti.

We have a feeling that this is not the end of the Sarri-Chelsea saga. We shall see…
