Antonio Conte

Since the day it became clear that Antonio Conte was doomed, we’ve felt sorry for the bloke. He won the Premier League title during his debut season in this country, and wasn’t helped last season by our failures in the transfer market the preceding summer.

Chelsea fans may have a soft spot for the Italian, but it doesn’t look as though any tears will be shed in the dressing room following his impending departure. In fact, Duncan Castles has claimed that several will be glad to see him gone.

Castles is quoted by the Express saying:

“Several of the Chelsea players don’t want Antonio Conte there and are quite happy in the knowledge he will either walk or be sacked and won’t be there when they come back for pre-season training.”

Managing Chelsea has been an impossible task over the past six-years or so. Player power, arrogance and misplaced entitlement has led to the downfall of several managers, Conte being one of them.

It’s a sad reality, but one that whoever replaces Conte will also have to face. Maurizio Sarri would not allow any snakes to operate under his watch. Perhaps he’d be an even more logical appointment than it appears.
