Andreas Christensen has been patient. Very patient.
He waited years in the academy, rising through the ranks and earning an impressive loan move at a young age.
Then it was two years of waiting on loan in the Bundesliga.
He came back to Chelsea, waited on the bench for six months under Antonio Conte, and then got his bis break.
There was a few months of playing regularly, before he eventually lost his place again. Since then, it’s been back to waiting for his chance. It’s no surprise he has been linked with transfers so often in the last few months.
But the last couple of months have finally seen him play some decent minutes for Maurizio Sarri as the fixtures have enforced some rotation, and the injury to Antonio Rudiger means that the loyal Dane now should get a run in the team to close out the season.
Given all the patience he’s showed, this is the least he deserves. Let’s hope he makes the most of it. The success of failure of our team this season depends a lot on how quickly he can adjust to first team action again.
