There’s no doubt about it that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is an extremely prolific centre-forward.
Last season’s Bundesliga golden boot winner has reportedly caught the eye of Chelsea’s rivals Arsenal. Which begs the question of why the Blues haven’t looked at the striker in search of competition for Alvaro Morata?
As per Bild, Borussia Dortmund has already lined up a replacement for Aubameyang in our out of favour Michy Batshuayi.
This should be an incentive for the club to play our best card and hijack any chance of Aubameyang joining the Gunners.
Aubameyang offers something different to Morata
Antonio Conte’s wish of signing a striker that’s not similar to Morata is understandable. It’s not a surprise that we’ve been linked with a move for a physical presence like Andy Carroll.
However, Carroll just isn’t at the level of the defending champions’ standards, even as a back-up option.
Aubameyang isn’t exactly a target man. However, that extra pace and mobility he offers catches so many defenders out. Not to mention, how deadly he is around the box, scoring 21 goals in all competitions midway through this season.
The 28-year-old would have gobbled up those one-on-one chances Morata missed in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal earlier in January.
It all comes down to the board’s ambition in hunting down a player with the quality Aubameyang possesses.
