Former-Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has blasted Danny Drinkwater for not joining up with the Three Lions for the international break, the Daily Mail reports.

Drinkwater has only recently made his first Chelsea appearance against Everton in the Carabao Cup in late October.

However, despite any injury concerns the player may have, Sutton is not having any of it as he states in his column for the Daily Mail.

Sutton is quoted by the Daily Mail saying:

“Danny Drinkwater has made the biggest mistake of his career in snubbing Gareth Southgate.”

Did Drinkwater make the wrong decision in turning England down?

In the long-term Drinkwater it may have been a bad decision for the midfielder to turn the opportunity down.

However, short term, the 27-year-old has to think about his health and his focus may be forcing his way into the Chelsea team.

Despite the competition he faces, Drinkwater has put in some solid performances since joining us for £35m in the summer.

If he makes an impression on Blues manager Antonio Conte, it’s likely that Drinkwater will get another call from Southgate before the World Cup.
