Antonio Conte has risked adding fuel to the fire of his feud with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho by claiming his record over his first 100 Chelsea games is more impressive than the Portuguese’s.
When Mourinho took charge of Chelsea back in 2004, few could have imagined the impact he had on the club. The Special One led us to back-to-back Premier League titles, having not won the top-tier for 50-years.
Antonio Conte, who took the reins of a Chelsea side who had just finished in tenth place, had a similar impact, leading us to another league title. However, the Italian has lost his grip on the crown this season, allowing Manchester City to poach the throne.
Despite that, Conte has measured his accomplishments as Chelsea manager up to Mourinho’s and believes that he comes out on top.
Conte is quoted by the Telegraph claiming that he has managed Chelsea in a more difficult era than Mourinho did last decade:
“Mourinho was 72 in the first 100? We are talking about a great manager. Don’t forget that the first 100 games with Mourinho were many years ago.”
“Now it’s not simple, I think. To have this type of results in this moment, in this present Chelsea. I must be pleased for the players, for the club, but, for sure, we could do better.”
We eagerly await Mourinho’s response…
